Naomi Reflects on Couples Barbados

Naomi Enjoying Couples Barbados

On 19th June 2013 I flew with British Airways from London Gatwick to Barbados for 6 nights. This was the first time I have flown with British Airways and I was very impressed. The flight was approximately 8 hours 40 minutes and it certainly went very fast as there were plenty of films and TV programmes to choose from. We were quickly united with the glorious 28 degree heat in Barbados because we had already filled our visa cards onboard the aircraft – something I highly recommend that you do! We were cheerfully greeted by our coach driver ready to travel to our first destination: Couples Barbados.

Couples Barbados

A Beautiful Resort

When we arrived at this All Inclusive resort we were welcomed by being whisked away to the piano bar for some champagne whilst the receptionist checked us in. A better reception could not be desired, and it felt simply brilliant after a long flight. My room was a One Bedroom Garden Balcony Suit, and its spacious footprint was comfortably the largest room I have stayed in, featuring a separate living area and a bedroom with a king size bed.

Hot Tip: All rooms at Couples Barbados come with an iPod docking station, an iron and an ironing board, an amazing flat screen TV, and of a fabulous minibar which was filled with delicious beverages. The hotel even allows you to request what items you’d like in the mini bar!

Once we’d settled in we went for a walk around the hotel complex, which features 3 excellent restaurants:

Waves: The main buffet restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Dover Grill: Open for dinner only and located on the beachfront. The menu is mainly sea food, and reservations are required.
Enid’s: Specialising in Caribbean cuisine and open for lunch and dinner.

I mainly ate at Waves, which was simply fantastic. There was plenty to choose from and they cater for everyone – even fussy eaters like me! Couples Barbados even offer premium branded drinks in their all inclusive package, which was great for the cocktails! My favorite had to be the Pink Flamingo, just delicious! This hotel really is a superb choice for an adults only escape!

Barbados Parade

An Island of Opportunity

We had the absolute pleasure of taking a trip to St. Lawrence Gap for a carnival, all dressed up and ecstatic about the wonderful atmosphere. This was easily the highlight of my visit to Barbados! Everyone came out of their hotels and shops to watch us walk the strip dancing to music, and some locals couldn’t resist joining in themselves!  The carnival street parade happens in August and I would love to go back and experience the full carnival in action.

Party Bayley!

That evening we went to Southern Palms for a BBQ on the beach. Southern Palms is a brilliant location for people who want to be within walking distance of local bars and restaurants. The hotel is a 4 star property and is located on the Dover Beach which was one of the best beaches I’ve ever seen!

Hot Tip: If you think Southern Palms would be the right hotel for you, it features 91 rooms, some of which offer a duplex with a kitchenette, and a range of views over the Caribbean Sea and resort gardens.

We also decided to sample the world renowned Oistins, which was only 10 minutes from Couples Barbados who generously offer a free transfer. Oistins is a fish fry and street food event that happens every Friday night, and is famed for its fabulous food and lively atmosphere. There were live bands,
Salsa dancing, gift stores, and food stalls with local dishes such as Fly Fish Burgers. This is not to be missed!

Barbados is truly a beautiful Caribbean Island and has lots to offer for both families and couples. The locals are friendly, the accommodation is superb, and I can’t wait to return!
