On arrival we were met with a nice cold glass of champagne and a cold towel. The bell boy took care of our bags and we where taken to the Excellence Club where we had a private check. The service was excellent Once we arrived at the Excellence Club for check in we were presented with another glass of champagne. The Excellence Lounge was very nice and it provided computers with internet access which was great as we could speak to our son on face book whilst we where there, it had a small bar area and hot buffet style snacks which were regularly changed throughout the day.
Hotel & Suite
We stayed in an Excellence Club Junior Suite Ocean Front.
When we arrived in our suite there was a bottle of champagne and fresh fruit available for us. The room we had blew us both away and the view was stunning.
One of the greatest things was waking up in the morning and drawing back the curtains to see this great view of the ocean from our king-size bed.

Every morning when I woke up I would sit on my private balcony where we had a big day bed which was very comfortable , I would be up early well before my wife so I would sit back, relax and read a book, whilst listening to the ocean.

- The Flavour Market — A Restaurant specialising in pairing gourmet tasting menus with a variety of fine wines for dinner.
- Spice — Asian & Japanese Restaurant serving a la Carte Dinner.
- Agave — Mexican Restaurant serving a· la Carte Dinner.
- The Lobster House — Restaurant serving a la Carte Dinner.
- The Grill — Serving Continental Breakfast & Casual a la Carte Lunch & a Steakhouse serving a la Carte Dinner.
- Chez Isabelle — French Restaurant & Wine Cellar serving a la Carte Dinner.
My favourite restaurant was the Chez Isabelle and, my wife Lisa was the Spice. As I liked the Chez Isabelle so much we had to go back as it was amazing, the food and service was out of this world. Unfortunately we where only on a 7 nights stay and we had to give two restaurants a miss The Flavour market and Lobster House. We ate mainly at the Toscanna for breakfast and the food was fresh and well prepared at all times, the staff were very friendly and every time we arrived for breakfast they knew we were from the Uk and they went and got us an English cup of tea. Lunch we ate mainly at the lobster restaurant as the sandwiches were delicious. The main benefits offered by this hotel are that there are no restrictions as to the number of visits you make to a particular restaurant and the bonus is you don’t have to make reservations. You turn up when you are ready. Overall the quality and service was fantastic.
There are ten different bars to complete the experience. We spent most of the evenings at either the Martini Bar or the Cafe Kafé Bar.
Whilst laying by the pool soaking up the sunshine throughout the day we where being served cocktails and coronas by the pool waiters.
Beach / Pool
The pool areas of the hotel are very relaxing so if you like it peaceful and quiet there are a lot of areas for you to chill out and relax, the only exception to this is the pool bar as this area was a little livier than the others. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds of the hotel are well maintained, the bar and pool staff were very helpful when we needed anything. The beach was great and is furnished to a very high standard , there was always someone on hand to get you a nice cold corona or in my wife’s case an exotic cocktail.
Activates/Evening Entertainment
I must recommend you watch the Michael Jackson show it is amazing, the Americans loved it and I the atmosphere it created was amazing. We thought the shows that we were able to see were very good with a wide variety, the only thing we could have asked for was the shows to start a little later as they where half way through by the time we had eaten dinner so we made sure we had an earlier meal on the Michael Jackson show.
There are plenty of activities on offer throughout the course of the day , I especially liked the water volleyball . I enjoyed the Excellence News letter which was left in the room every evening this gave you an indication of what the weather will be like plus the restaurants that are available for the next day and activities. I was up most morning at the Tennis clinic which I enjoyed , the instructor was very helpful as I was a little rusty for the first session and then I got back into the grove.
Jumbo Tours
I strongly recommend you take a private taxi transfer as you do not have to wait around for anybody else as it is quicker than the normal transfer.
We used a company called Jumbo Tours who were our Representatives in resort. You can not miss them with their pink shirts on they are very helpful and have great knowledge, they were very prompt on both arrival and departure transfers. Their Representative visits the hotel on 6 days of the week each day to assist with any issues, which we found very useful as we could book or trips through them.
Chichen Itza is a must as the culture and history is fantastic it is a long day but well worth it.
Overall Impression
I would definitely return to this hotel the name Excellence says it all, it was just the prefect tonic that Lisa and I needed, pure relaxation and quality from start to finish.
And that is just not me saying it, I also got some fantastic feedback from my clients whilst I was there and they will definitely be returning to this Hotel next year.
