Behind the scenes with In Focus: Barbados

06/12/2014bayley

Over the last few weeks we’ve had the pleasure of swapping our desks for the glorious Caribbean island of Barbados to bring you a series of videos introducing you to this wonderful place.

You may have caught some of the action over on our Facebook and Twitter pages already, so as we eagerly anticipate the finished results, we thought we’d take you behind the scenes so you can see exactly what we’ve been up to.

“In Focus” is our brand new video project taking us to various Caribbean and tropical destinations to show you just what it’s like to holiday there. Our journey has started with Barbados where we visited 6 fantastic resorts and toured the island capturing beauty spots and attractions.

Barbados Sunset (crop)Our home for 10 nights was at Waves Barbados, a fantastic resort on the West Coast of the island where we were well-fed and looked after for the duration. Just as we arrived they were about to start an art class so we dropped our bags and began filming right away!

The guests at Waves were also kind enough to help out – big thanks to Brock & Holly, our couple from Canada who were our reception models! We just mentioned there would be cocktails involved and strangely, they suddenly couldn’t refuse.

Next up we headed to Sugar Cane Club, a beautiful resort on the North of the island where the staff are incredible and the natural surroundings keep customers returning time after time. Shooting began at around 8am and the temperature was already soaring!

Did we already tell you that the staff were incredible? Oh well it’s worth a second mention! They catered to our every need here – drinks, towels, screwdrivers (don’t ask) – nothing was too much for anybody at Sugar Cane which was invaluable help during our long day of filming.

On Monday we went to Time Out Hotel where again, the staff went out of their way to help us. The guests there were also fully on board with the project, stopping to ask us questions and recommending bars and restaurants in the area for our videos. Since Time Out is at the heart of St Lawrence Gap and just a few steps from Dover Beach we were able to pack a lot in to the day – it was an early one for us that night!

It was scorchio at The Club Barbados resort and spa. So where better to film than on a lilo in the pool? It was all hands on deck for this shot (shown further down) as I kept floating away! The Club had one of the most impressive sunsets we’d seen during our time in Barbados, I think we all had to pinch ourselves that we were so lucky to be working there.

Sea Breeze Beach hotel was next on the agenda, a beautifully presented family-friendly resort close to Oistins Bay. We got some really great footage here thanks to the charming beach and views. P.S. the cocktails were amazing.

Our final resort stop was Ocean Two. They’ve got the most impressive rooftop terrace with an adults-only pool overlooking the ocean. And what a view it was! It was a super hot day but at Ocean Two they’ve thought of everything to keep you hydrated – snow cones were available in a variety of flavours (alcoholic  or non) on the beach! So obviously we treated ourselves.

As well as filming at the resorts we had loads of opportunity to tour the island, hitting up some brilliant tourist and local attractions. These included stops at Oistins Fish Fry and market (go on a Friday when the locals are there for food, drink and dancing in to the night), the famous St Lawrence Gap where we had our pick of restaurants and bars and St Nicholas Abbey, a beautifully restored plantation where you’ll learn about Bajan heritage and probably leave with a big bottle of rum!

Barbados is an incredible place and we can’t wait to reveal our videos to you. We had a fantastic time filming and are so excited about this project. You’re going to love it too! Keep your eyes peeled at Blue Bay Travel, our Facebook and Twitter pages and subscribe to our YouTube channel over the next few weeks as we give you a unique view of life on the island.
