Chloe’s Mexican Escapade – The Handsome Greeting of Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun

04/02/2015Chloe

Chloe is one of the newer members of the Blue Bay Crew, but golly-gosh does she know her way around a holiday. She recently embarked on a pioneering escapade around Mexico that had us all green with envy, and this blog emerges as the first entry of her travel chronicles. Read on, valiant holidaymakers.

Getting there

After months of anticipation and excitement, the day had finally come to take our first ever trip to Mexico. I’m sure I was more excited than a child on Christmas Eve! Nothing could prepare us for the luxury we were about to enjoy…

After travelling down to Gatwick airport the day before, all the way from “sunny” Stoke-on-Trent, we spent the night at a nearby airport hotel and woke up feeling refreshed, eager to get on our merry way to Mexico. We caught the local bus service right to Gatwick airport, which was super convenient and only a few minutes’ walk from the terminal building. Once we checked in for our Virgin Atlantic flight (which I must say was a quick and painless process after completing the online check in the previous day) we headed up to the departure lounge to take advantage of the duty free shopping and enjoy a spot of breakfast. It was the best way to start our holiday.

Flying Virgin

I had never flown with Virgin before, but I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious and comfortable the economy seats were. We’d been lucky enough to bag some of the roomy seats near the rear of the aircraft; the gold dust of the air-travel world! There was plenty of in-flight entertainment to keep us occupied for the long-haul flight, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Before we knew it we had touched down in Cancun airport, collected our bags, and met our friendly Jumbo Tours representative for our transfers. The Jumbo Tours representatives are instantly recognisable thanks to their pink shirts and the Jumbo clipboard, and we were swiftly taken to our minibus to be whisked away to our first hotel of the trip: Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun.

Getting acquainted with Secrets

As soon as we pulled up to the hotel my first thought was “I’ve gone to heaven!” –  Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun was simply stunning. From the moment we stepped out of the minibus we were greeted by one of the hotel’s entrance staff , who swiftly took our suitcases and escorted us to reception. Once the doors opened to the hotel’s lobby I was blown away; they definitely knew how to make a fabulous first impression. The delightful scents of citrus oils drifted through reception, and before we’d even sat down to begin our check-in we were offered a cold glass of champagne which went down a treat.

Bayley & Champagne

Check-in at Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun was a speedy process, and we were promptly taken to our room in block 15, a high floor room with great views over the resort and the ocean. We were blown away when we walked in. The suite was so luxurious and grand! The pictures you see of the rooms, no matter how beautiful they are, definitely don’t do them justice. You have to see them for yourself! A huge four-poster bed with fresh white linens and bathrobes acted as the centrepiece, and our slippers were laid out perfectly nearby. There was plenty of wardrobe space, and a huge bathroom equipped with his & hers sinks. Suitably located next to the bed was the in-suite Jacuzzi for two, perfect for relaxing after a long flight. Down from the main bedroom there was a lounge area, leading onto a generously sized balcony complete with a comfy seating and and a table and chairs. There was even a chilled bottle of bubbly in the room (which I had requested prior to our arrival), which we enjoyed from the comfort of the Jacuzzi. Bliss.

Four Poster Bed

After popping open the bottle of bubbly and relaxing in the Jacuzzi we decided to call it a night, retreating to the huge, comfy bed, a real treat for our well-travelled frames. We had only been at the resort a matter of hours but we had been absolutely blown away by the pure luxury of the hotel, its grounds and of course the rooms. I was in love.
