As John Chalmer’s time in Cap Cana comes to an end, he’s taken the time to reflect further on one of his favourite resorts: Sanctuary Cap Cana. It’s a truly beautiful resort, so read on and feel the love.
After so many WOW moments at Sanctuary Cap Cana we were entering the last phase of our trip to Cap Cana.
During our time here the overall standard for dining was some of the best we’ve experienced in the Dominican Republic, and we know from talking with the F&B Director that they are working hard to raise the bar even further. The 24 hour room service is also very prompt, with a 25 minute turnaround on some orders.
For breakfast you have a buffet option at Casa Bella, where you can dine inside with AC or outside on an extensive terrace overlooking the main pool and the ocean beyond. For lunch you have three options: fast food on the beach from a “beached boat”, a buffet in Casa Bella, or a la carte dining in the Blue Marlin with breathtaking views.
In the evening for dinner you’ll usually have the option of WOK (for Asian cuisine), Blue Marlin (mainly seafood), the Steak House or the Capriccio (for Italian cuisine). Our two favourites so far have been the Blue Marlin and the Steak House. Some of the restaurants feature three strolling players who serenade diners in the evening, which is a nice touch.
At Sanctuary Cap Cana you have a man-made beach cove that has been significantly improved through recent renovations. To the right perimeter of the property you’ll find a beach we affectionately nicknamed “Trump Beach”, overlooked by some of the villas. On the opposite side near the Castle you have Juanillo Beach, one of the best beaches on the island with miles of pure white sand.
If you are more of a pool person you’ll not be disappointed by Sanctuary Cap Cana. for it has five pools: one on the rooftop of the Castle (which is Adult Only), the main pool with a swim up bar, a cascade pool great for relaxation, an upper infinity pool that flows seamlessly into the Cascade pool, and a wonderful kids pool.
The property has extensive gardens where you can wander and marvel at all the tropical plants and vistas, and the property also has a large spa and a well equipped gym. For more lively entertainment, the evenings are very good indeed owing to the nightclub, theatre, upper terrace, and Love Bar – and our favourite place, a little outdoor plaza area between the Love Bar and the Steak House which brings to mind a European village square with a paved floor, bottle brush trees and water features.
A very nice feature for guests staying in either the Villas or the Castle is that they both have their own private check in areas and lounges with some additional benefits thrown in.
If we were to sum up Sanctuary Cap Cana in three lines it would be:
• Just stunning as it’s so beautiful
• A surprise around every corner
• Villa living at its best
Sanctuary Cap Cana can be anything you want it to be: fabulous villa style living, romantic seclusion in a rooftop Honeymoon Suite in the Castle, or fun in the sun with the animation team. It’s like a good cocktail ingredient; a mixology of all your favourite elements tailor-made for you.
Sanctuary Cap Cana is certainly the best property we’ve stayed in on the island, and our love affair with it has been well and truly rekindled to the extent we are already planning to return.
Bayley, who has been treated like a VIB (Very Important Bear), has remarked that the management and staff put their hearts into everything they do. They have so much passion and care about their guests, and want to make a difference. This is what sets Sanctuary Cap Cana apart.
