Heading off to the beautiful Tobago recently, our very own Abby was lucky enough to experience the incredible Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort. Here’s what she thought of her escape.

Le Grand Courlan Resort View

Tobago is a fantastic destination with so much to see and do for all types of traveller. This tiny island is just 41 by 14 kilometres, with huge diversity including palm-lined beaches, coral reefs and a wealth of lush rainforest. The overall vibe is laid back and relaxing, with locals and tourists alike frequenting the same beaches, bars and nightclubs.

There are a whole host of exciting events, including the Tobago Carnival, Easter goat and crab race, Heritage Festivals and Great Race Regatta, to name just a few. Whether you are looking for a private villa, 5-star luxury escape, or an exceptional value 3-star beachfront break, Tobago has it all. I spent 4 nights in Tobago and will be focusing my blog on the wonderful hotel that is Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort!

Where is Le Grand Courlan Located?

Just a short 20-minute drive from the airport, you will find Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort, a 3.5-star adults only haven located on Stonehaven Bay. Stonehaven Bay is beautifully uncommercialized wide beach with favourable swimming conditions and is a favoured spot for turtles to lay their eggs!

Just North of Le Grand Courlan you will find Black Rock, a busy, friendly village with a selection of nice little rum bars, great if you want to venture out of the hotel one day and experience the local culture. Similarly, there is a handful of incredible restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. I ate at both Waves and Seahorse, and both the food and service were exceptional!

The Hotel

Back to Le Grand Courlan itself… here you’ll find 79 rooms, three restaurants, two bars, one pool, a gym, and even a spa! There are four room types on offer; Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Ocean View, Deluxe Garden Plunge Pool and a One Bedroom Jacuzzi Suite. All rooms come equipped with their very own private balcony or terrace, and the usual amenities you’d expect including air-con, ceiling fan, mini fridge, in room safe, and tea & coffee making facilities, to name just a few.

The room I stayed in was the Deluxe Ocean view room, with a king bed. It was extremely spacious, had a little seating area with two comfy armchairs, a desk and a bathroom with bath and overhead shower. You can see the view from my balcony below, it was amazing!

Wining & Dining at Le Grand Courlan

You can find three restaurants to tickle your tastebuds at Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort. The Pinnacle Restaurant offering fresh seafood, local cuisine and international dishes, Caribbean Bistro (by reservation only) specialising in local cuisine and fine dining, and finally the beach front Waves Restaurant & Bar.

Breakfast is served at The Pinnacle and is a delightful buffet with a mixture of local and English breakfast foods. You get a spectacular view over Stonehaven Bay which is the perfect way to start your day.

What to Expect

With a spa, fully equipped gym and one pool onsite, Le Grand Courlan has everything needed for a perfect stay. The Spa offers a range of treatments including hydro-therapy baths, aromatherapy, salt scrubs, mini facials and a wide selection of massages. It is open daily and as part of our offers*, guests will be gifted with three spa treatments per person per stay. The treatments are 30 minutes long, and at check-in you’ll receive a card with details of your booked treatments and the dates/times these have been scheduled for.

The gym has a good range of equipment and a compression fitness floor – a massive plus is you can workout whilst having amazing views over Stonehaven Bay! The gym is open from 5am to 10pm every day, and there is a gym attendant / personal trainer who is able to tend to your every need.

For those who, like me, do not want to spend the holiday in the gym, there is a fantastic pool and Jacuzzi to enjoy. The pool has its very own swim-up bar, Ripples, which has an amazing cocktail menu and is open from 11am to 6pm.
