Waves Barbados: New to us, New Intel, and a New Video Review

20/02/2015Tom

Forget everything you’ve ever known or experienced about all-inclusive hotels: Waves Barbados completely rewrites the rulebook.

It’s a boutique hotel of only 70 rooms, artfully mixing a modern style with classic island relaxation. Each room has all the basics covered, with everything from supersize king beds to fridges and kettles. But more than this, Waves Barbados perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the island in all its upbeat vitality. A holiday at Waves Barbados is a holiday built with Bajan flair, and we can vouch for all the little details that make this resort so unique.

We were lucky enough to have a good look around Waves Barbados as part of our InFocus video project, and we’ve got a stack of off-book information for some holidaymaking enlightenment.

Local Pride

Barbados is defined by its larger‐than‐life people, and they’re a nation who love expressive cuisine. Waves Barbados features three restaurants, and each celebrates the island’s unreserved passion for amazing food. From breakfast at Seascape (try the omelettes, they’re great) to dinner at Oliver’s (try the new tapas menu, it rocks), everything is a real palate-pleaser.

What many holidaymakers don’t realise is that all this good food has a good philosophy. Waves Barbados takes great pride in sourcing local produce from Bajan farmers who work in the neighbouring land. An agreement with local fishermen ensures the best Bajan fish are delivered from the surrounding area, which affords Waves Barbados some of the freshest seafood on the island. We also discovered that the resort has its own farm from which the majority of fruit and vegetables are grown and harvested. Waves Barbados firmly believes that the key to amazing Caribbean cuisine is a home-grown, self-made journey to perfection, and the rewards of this philosophy are evident from the first bite.

Things to do and see sea

Situated on the world-famous Gold Coast of Barbados, Waves Barbados is one of the most idyllic destinations on the island – and they don’t hesitate to make the most of their privileged location.

There are loads of water sports on site and many of them are available free of charge, such as paddle boarding, wind‐surfing, Hobbie Cats, canoeing, and kayaking. When we were at  Waves Barbados testing the facilities, the water sports staff were eager to teach budding beginners and seasoned pros alike. The local reef also provides some excellent opportunities for snorkelling, and once a week Waves Barbados will take take you on an amazing turtle swim experience for free. There’s loads to do, so get involved.
