John Chalmers has been a Blue Bay holidaymaker pretty much since the beginning. He’s a seasoned traveller with top-notch knowledge of the best destinations on the planet. He’s currently enjoying the beautiful region of Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic, and has kindly agreed to share his experiences in a series of guest blogs. Thus his story begins…
When most people imagine the Dominican Republic they tend to think of Punta Cana renowned for its range of all inclusive hotels along Bavaro Beach, but rarely is a thought spared for Cap Cana. This needs to change. Cap Cana is like a whole other world. It’s a gorgeous tract of land with world class golf courses, a yacht-bearing marina, upmarket real estate and some high-end resorts ideal for the discerning holidaymaker.
This is our fifth stay at Cap Cana and we just love it here. It’s so different from the rest of this popular Caribbean island, offering its own distinct flavour of holidays. Today is the first day of a 14 day stint in the Dominican Republic, and for the first 5 nights we’re calling AlSol del Mar Cap Cana home.
We stayed at AlSol del Mar last October and we were so impressed we decided to head back out and enjoy it all over again. AlSol del Mar is not your run-of-the-mill Punta Cana style resort, and perfectly captures the spirit of Cap Cana. It’s a smaller hotel and many of the guests here are permanent residents. The core element of any stay at AlSol del Mar is serenity: absolute peace combined with flawless refinement.
Since we arrived we’ve had a well-earned chill out, not least of all owning to the calming effect of AlSol del Mar. As you’ll see from my photos the main building is outstandingly beautifully, infused with vibrant, yet peaceful, aquamarine blues. From the moment you enter you can feel the resort’s nautical theme, embodied in a statement art feature depicting all manner of sea creatures and coral.
All of the furniture and furnishings coordinate excellently with the ocean theme, and the concept of a placid sea makes relaxation effortless. The standard of accommodation is very high indeed with everything you could ever ask for in a suite, and our Oceanfront Suite is absolutely stunning.
In addition to its sizeable lounge and dining area it has a fully equipped kitchen complete with a huge fridge freezer, and a washing machine and dryer housed behind its own door to suppress noise. We have a good sized bedroom with a very comfortable bed and top quality bed linens, and the bathroom comes complete with a shower that can be al fresco if you wish.
The standard of the food and dining is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble and the service is very personal, adding an extra level of luxury to your holiday experience.
The pool at AlSol Del Mar is one of the most impressive infinity pools we have even seen. At one end it has a shallower kid-compatible section, and at the other there’s a swim up pool bar serving an enticing range of delicious beverages. There are also three large Jacuzzis – just check out the photos as words cannot do them justice!
If you like collecting seashells, AlSol del Mar has a beach cove that will keep you busy for hours. The ocean here is a wonderfully wild mixture of Caribbean blues and seagrass greens, and serves as a constant reminder of Cap Cana’s outstanding natural beauty.
AlSol del Mar is family friendly, making it ideal for families with young children looking for a safe, peaceful beach holiday. But this is by no means a full-on family resort: there are many couples (just like us) making the most of the relaxing atmosphere. The key thing all AlSol del Mar holidaymakers value above all else is peacefulness. If you want an escape from the bustle of the modern world, AlSol del Mar is the getaway of your dreams.
We’ll be sampling more of the AlSol portfolio during our time in Cap Cana, and you’ll receive the intel first right here on the Blue Bay Blog
