What better way to kick-start your 18th year than jetting off to Mexico. As if that’s not enough, mix in a whole host of incredible staff eager to make a fuss and the getaway cranks up a notch. That’s what celebrating a special occasion at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun and Excellence Riviera Cancun involves. Smiles all round. Well, with 5 cakes for 1 birthday boy, something special’s going down.
Cake Glory
It was my son Rhys’ 18th birthday so my wife and I treated him to a special birthday getaway to Mexico. We decided on a dual centre stay, so we could start with the rock star atmosphere at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun before soaking up the goodness at Excellence Riviera Cancun.
We woke up on that December morning at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun to clear blue skies, top temperatures and a reason to celebrate. First stop? Breakfast. Little did Rhys know, however, that we had already told the concierge at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun about the special occasion so when he returned from piling his plate high with birthday breakfast goodies, the waiters and waitresses returned with bucks fizz, a birthday cake and sang a heart-warming rendition of Happy Birthday. The embarrassed look on his face was a sign that the day was off to a top start!
After a busy day of, well, sitting by the pool at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun, we returned to our room. Cue a knock at the door. An unknowing birthday boy answered the door to a bottle of champagne and cake number two. The cork was popped, a toast raised, and another amazing cake devoured. Cheers!
We set off for a tipple at Smash Bar at Hard Rock Hotel Cancun before our evening meal. Donis was waiting behind the bar with a tequila and a beer. I have to admit, I was slightly jealous. After a delicious Italian meal at Ciao, Rhys was treated to another rendition of Happy Birthday along with, you guessed it, cake number 3! Oh, and another bottle of bubbles! He was beaming.
The celebrations didn’t end there. We set off to Excellence Riviera Cancun for the second part of our getaway. Rhys opened the door to be greeted with a room donned with balloons, and streamers, along with his third bottle of bubbly and a card from the hotel. Birthday celebration day two ended with a meal at Excellence Riviera Cancun‘s Basmati along with more champagne and cake number four.
The following day wouldn’t have been complete without cake number 5. The king of call cakes. Finished with a personalised messages from the staff at Excellence Riviera Cancun. Now that’s how you celebrate a special occasion.
