The latest entry to Chris’ fascinating journal of his Caribbean adventure is here! Chris and his wife Liz have now arrived in St. Vincent and are lapping up the breathtakingly lavish surroundings of the Buccament Bay Resort.

What better place to chill with a cocktail and a book?

Day 3 – A Swift Relocation

Check-in at Barbados was a chilled out affair. This did not come as a surprise as we have pleasantly learnt the Caribbean style always includes a heavy dose of tranquillity. Once on-board, the 25 minute flight over to St Vincent was an enchanting experience. The planes were new, the legroom ample and (with the exception of a dead arm from my wife falling asleep on my shoulder) a genuinely comfortable experience!

On arriving at St Vincent airport we watched the suitcases being carefully unloaded behind the immigration officer. It was then a fleeting 8-pace walk across the room to the customs officer, before being welcomed on the other side of arrivals by Lesroy – our driver to Buccament Bay Resort.

Fortunately, Lesroy swiftly transported us from the airport to Buccament Bay Resort in only 30 minutes. Once the transient check-in was complete and we had unpacked, Liz was more than ready to tackle the delectable delights of Murphy’s immense barbecued shrimps, chicken and ribs.

Liz’s Top Tip: If like me you suffer from travel sickness, the transfer from the airport to the hotel in the Caribbean often means focusing on the horizon with clenched fists whilst turning a funny grey/green colour and developing a cold sweat. The transfer to the hotel in Barbados came as a pleasant surprise. Being the first ‘non-volcanic’ Caribbean island I’d visited I was not expecting the gentle stability of a flat landscape. This allowed for beautiful straight, flat roads with smooth surfaces. Most roads were at least two lanes, with actual lane markings and the drivers appeared to stick to some kind of vaguely recognisable highway code. End result; a delightfully lesser-nauseous Liz both to and from the airport.

Overall, we’ve experienced a rather impressively stress-free day of island hopping, enjoyed the enticing gastronomic experience that is Murphy’s and rounded the day off with an excessive dose of chilling out.

Day 4 – A Recommendation From Venice

The Buccament Bay Resort is nestled in a luscious sheltered valley with a stunning powder white sand beach right on the door step. The hotel establishes an elegant vibe, blended with alluring traditional Caribbean architecture. The pool presents a wonderful sweeping design with an expansive decking area for sun bathing, leading on to the beach. As a Lilliputian side note, the beach performs a remarkable job of being a secluded sun-trap, so if you are travelling with young children be sure to locate a slice of shade when you camp out in the morning.

The villas are nothing short of sensational! Each one is equipped with a scintillating plunge pool, supremely air-conditioned bedrooms and a lavishly spacious sitting room. Worth noting is that the mini-bars in the villas are stocked with water and soft drinks as standard. If you enjoy relaxing on your verandah in the evening with a fresh G&T, I would recommend buying a bottle in duty free as you transit through Barbados or St Lucia and use the mixers in the daily replenished mini-bar.

There are no breakfast or lunch reservations required for the restaurants, making the whole process highly flexible and completely effortless. You will be required to book a table for your evening meals, but fortunately the staff are fantastic and will swiftly do this for you, either at dinner the night before or at breakfast/lunch of that day.

We started with an early(ish) breakfast at 08:30, where there may have been a Mimosa or 2 to accompany the superb food, before retiring back to the villa to lounge in the plunge pool and type this blog. Venice, our waitress last night, recommended the Caribbean night as an unmissable part of the Buccament Bay experience. We headed back down to the Bay Beach Club for lunch and took Venice’s advice and booked our spot on the Caribbean night. We finally dropped by the Concierge Service to investigate some local tours, before strolling down to the beach and acquiring some sun for my pasty legs!

More soon…

Chris & Liz

P.S. As you will see from the photo below, the 1 bed villas do sleep 4 – as long as 2 of you are green and under 15cm long!

These friendly fellows can be spotted occasionally if you look out for them!

What a stunning resort! Chris has kept us fixated on our inbox’s for the next update with the ravishing details of his adventure. We bet it is going to be difficult for him and his wife Liz to leave such a beautiful destination behind when it comes to journeying home.

Stay tuned for the next update soon!
