Our very own Helen recently turned 40, got married in America, and honeymooned at TRS Yucatan in one bumper break. We hear all about it.
It’s not every day that you get married in Vegas and have your honeymoon at TRS Yucatan – The Royal Suites by Palladium while celebrating your 40th birthday. But that’s exactly what one of our Blue Bay team did recently.
We caught up with her when she returned from her bumper break to find out more about her TRS experience. This is Helen’s story.
Helen’s experience
TRS Yucatan is all about making sure you fully relax and enjoy yourself which is exactly what was needed after craziness of getting married.
The staff here really go out of their way to make sure you feel chilled and pampered by taking care of every little detail they can. TRS Yucatan would suit honeymooners, couples, or small groups.
Blissful location
TRS Yucatan is on the Riviera Maya, near Akumal. The resort offers a feeling of seclusion which was perfect for our peaceful break. However, if you did want to get out and about there are Collectivos (minibuses which will take you to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and other places of interest) from the main gate, or taxis.
Additionally, in the lobby, there’s always someone happy to arrange trips to some of the best things to do in Cancun. The entire resort, and other Palladium hotels around it, have a very natural feeling with jungle-like vegetation all around bringing you closer to nature. For example, one day we were visited by some Yucatan Jays on our balcony (Thanks, Dad, for suggesting the bird watching app!), they perched on the balcony rail watching us and hoping for a peanut or two. It felt like we were the wildlife.
Each of the Palladium resorts in the area are connected by covered trails and bridges if you fancy walking. On the other hand, there are also roads and tracks for carts constantly helping people get from A to B.
What was your room at TRS Yucatan like?
The room was beautiful. The resort knew we were on honeymoon and celebrating my 40th birthday too. They gave us a double room-category upgrade from a Garden View to a Junior Suite Poolside Ocean View room, with butler service. Thanks, TRS!
The rooms are modern and luxurious, we had a king-size bed, hydromassage tub, Smart TV (which you could log in to your own Netflix or Spotify accounts from), a seating area, and balcony. Our room was near the infinity pool and the balcony overlooked plenty of trees with a view of the Caribbean sea in a gap between them. which was stunning.
Our butler set up the ability to contact him or his colleagues via Whatsapp during our stay and said if there was anything we needed we should just ask. Each day we got a Whatsapp with a weather report and information about entertainment happening that day.
Using Whatsapp to contact our butler meant we could always find out information or arrange anything we needed while respecting our privacy. We were a little unsure about having a butler, as we did want someone following us around. However, we had no worries there because of the way they’re organised, it made all the difference for our stay.
What was the food like?
As TRS Yucatan guests we had access to all of the other nearby resorts’ bars and restaurants too. We ate in a different restaurant each night, and still didn’t have enough time to see all the options.
There’s something for everyone here – Italian, French, Mediterranean, Mexican, and Steak. Plus Thai and Japanese eateries, as well as buffets which serve a bit of everything at the other Palladium hotels.
The Palladium app (Apple and Android) helps you to book restaurants, arrange spa treatments, find your way around and organise your holiday. If you wanted to arrange a particular restaurant your butler could assist. The app also allows you more environmentally friendly access to the menus.
All-inclusive lobster
I’ve always wanted to try lobster, and at the Helios restaurant it’s included in the All Inclusive programme, with no supplement.
Hands down my favourite meal of the whole holiday was Lobster Thermidor. Sat outside Helios restaurant on one of our last evenings, with lanterns above us next to the sounds of the Caribbean Sea. That meal was absolute heaven.
They also offered us a private dining experience at an additional cost. One lucky couple had a lantern-lit table and their own waiter for a special meal right next to the ocean.
My favourite restaurant
We both agreed that our favourite venue was La Boheme. The bright, modern and elegant French restaurant.
Each course was delicious and beautifully presented. There was no background music but the guests chatting to each other made it feel so relaxed there.
I thoroughly enjoyed my seabass and my new husband loved his lamb. As usual, the staff were wonderfully friendly and welcoming.
Favourite bar
A top spot we found was the La Terraza pool bar. Our room was really close to the Infinity pool but a couple of times we fancied somewhere quieter. The pool by La Terraza fit the bill.
The area was set back a little with sunloungers and Bali beds offering a quieter option for relaxing during the day.
I loved drinking frozen Margaritas here, relaxing on a Bali bed, listening to music and people-watching. Perfect!
You need to book the Chic Cabaret
We had heard about Chic Cabaret before going to Mexico, and definitely recommend booking that during a stay at TRS Yucatan.
It’s a whole evening of entertainment including a meal and drinks. A mixture of acrobatics, dancing and live music, plus some audience participation.
It’s an additional $35pp but we had a great evening, and the party continues at the Full Moon bar between Chic and the lobby until late.
Things to do at TRS Yucatan
Next to TRS Yucatan, there are a few small sandy areas, not really beaches as such. However, there is a beach over at Grand Palladium Kantenah. You can catch one of the little carts zipping about the resort at a designated stop or ask your butler to arrange one for you.
However, the pool areas are the main feature at TRS Yucatan, and where most people go to top up their tan. This suited us fine, we didn’t miss the beach – we still had a cool breeze off the Caribbean and the sound of the waves.
There are a number of pool options at TRS Yucatan to suit your mood. The end nearest the Gaia pool bar is the liveliest with activities like aqua aerobics and fitness classes on offer. Whereas the end nearer to the Io pool bar is quieter, although there is still a fun atmosphere with live music or a DJ some days.
Any insider info?
You’re not allowed to reserve sunloungers at TRS Yucatan. However, there were still a good amount of towels on the loungers after breakfast each day. Staff would go around and remove towels that had been there a while.
The pools and loungers at TRS would get busy. But with access to so many resorts in the area, you could just walk or catch a buggy to the next resort and chill out there instead.
