Chloe’s time in Antigua proved to give her the adrenaline-filled pleasure she’s after. With stingrays, catamarans, island tours, and luxury yachts, she certainly found her sea legs!
Stingray City
I’m always keen for an adventure, so going to see the stingrays at Stingray City was a must. Feeling a little bit like James Bond on a secret mission in paradise, we set off in a speedboat. You’ll be relieved to know that our adventure had much less violence than a classic James Bond Movie. In fact, it had no violence at all. But was rammed with just as much adrenaline and intrigue. From the youngest zealous toddler, to the more refined (but equally as excited adult), everyone was eager to meet the stingrays.
The speedboat took us to a shallow sandbank which was surrounded by coral; a natural environment where the stingrays lived. And there they were. They were huge! I couldn’t believe how big they were. They were such gracious creatures who were happily swimming around. We had plenty of time to chill out with the rays, making friends and even taking a few stingray selfies! The braver souls in the group even fed the them squid. An amazing, but admittedly smelly experience. A definite must.
Catamaran Island Tour
After finding my sea legs on the speedboat, jumping on a Catamaran was a piece of cake! I’d heard lots of amazing things about catamaran excursions, so getting to the chance to do one myself was pretty top-notch. Yes, there may have been a slight victory dance involved.
We set sail from St John’s Harbour on the North West Coast of Antigua and took a tour of Five Islands, Jolly Harbour and Dark Wood Beach. Feeling ever so slightly regal on our grand trip, we took in the sights of interest and ooh and aahed at the spectacular views. En route to Green Island we faced the choppier seas on the island’s east. A definite moment of ecstasy for the thrill seekers on-board! Amid the cheers, and somewhat nervous screams, we glided through the rough seas to reach much calmer waters.
Whether in celebration or routine, the safe arrival meant the bar opened! The rum punch was following, the music was pumping and the party started. We docked in Green Island for a spot of lunch, a sunbathing fix and a snorkel for the more active voyagers. Back aboard the catamaran, we sailed past English Harbour through Nelsons Dockyard, awing in amazement at the stunning ships and luxury yachts; a millionaires paradise. There was such a fantastic atmosphere.
There’s no better feeling than sailing through the Caribbean sea, the wind through your hair. Ultimate relaxation.
