Thinking about spending a big birthday celebrating abroad? Here’s first hand experience of why Soco House St Lucia is the ideal venue.
We recently sent Blue Bay customer, Joanne and her friends to the newest resort ticket in town, Soco House, St Lucia to celebrate a 40th birthday in style.
When they got back, we caught up with Joanne to see how the celebrations went at the island’s latest stunning resort.
But, before we get into Joanne’s story, how about we tell you a little bit more about Soco House.
What is Soco House, St Lucia?
A brand-new resort on the shores of St Lucia’s dazzling north east Caribbean Sea coast. Soco House Resort places you in the perfect position to make the most of this incredible island.
Placing you at the heart of all the amazing things to do in Rodney Bay. The resort captures the French Caribbean essence of St Lucia perfectly.
Meanwhile, with just 75 rooms, three bars, a restaurant, fitness centre and spa, this four-star haven offers everything you need for a boutique island break. On the other hand, those amenities also work rather well if you want to stage a birthday celebration there.
So how about we handover to Joanne to talk about her experience partying in St Lucia.
Over to Joanne
We were a party of three ladies, travelling to St Lucia for my friends 40th Birthday. What a way to celebrate. We were beyond excited!
But, before the fun could begin, we had to fill out the St Lucia travel authorisation Form. To do this we had to complete a negative PCR 72 hrs before landing in St Lucia.
Once we had the results we could enter them onto the online form and submit it. The response from St Lucia was super quick, which made the process so easy.
How Was Your Flight?
We flew from London Gatwick with British Airways. BA use the Verifly app, so you upload your mugshot, PCR results, Travel authorisation and your health screening questionnaire. The app makes check-in at the airport so much quicker, meaning more time in duty free!
The flight was brilliant. So many films to keep us entertained, there were also food, snacks, and wine. What more could you want?
Landing in St Lucia
Once we arrived in St Lucia we went into a temporary Covid building. This is where we had our temperature taken and gave over our forms with proof of vaccines. We were then given a white wristband granting us free movement around the island without the need to quarantine.
Once we were through the covid checks and passport control, which took around an hour, we collected our bags and headed outside where our transfer to Soco House was waiting.
First Impressions and Check-In
We were on a small bus, where the driver was happy to answer our questions and showed us some local sights on our way to the hotel. The transfer was around an hour and a half. Although this seems a long time, it gave us a great perspective of the island and the locals going about their daily lives. My first impressions… WOW!
We arrived at the hotel and the staff were there ready to greet us. The lobby was bright and open, filled with comfy white leather chairs and flowers, as we were checking in, the bar staff asked “Ladies welcome, can I get you a Prosecco, or a Rum Punch?” We had the latter, and the bar man kept them coming all week.
After check-in, we nipped into the nurses station where she took our temperature and details. There is a nurse on site everyday, which was extremely helpful when the rules around PCR testing changed again while we were out there. However, thankfully the nurse sorted everything for us.
Now we’ve checked in, let’s give you a little more information about the resort.
Resort Experience Overview
The Room
We stayed in a junior suite, it was lovely, so bright! Plenty of room for us three ladies. We had tea and coffee making facilities, Iron and Ironing board, and beach towels.
There was also a big smart TV on the wall with apps on, so after a day it was nice to come back to the room, shower and watch some Netflix before we headed back out.
Bars and restaurant
The resort restaurant operates set menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, although there is only one restaurant on-site, the food was one of my favourite things about this hotel.
The menu changed each day. I’ll admit, some days I couldn’t decide so I’d have more than one choice, the staff would say “you’re on holiday, you can have what you want”. The shrimp mac and cheese for lunch was my favourite. I could eat it over and over! Meanwhile, over at the bars, the Rum Punch was delicious, and deadly. Some days we would be relaxing by the pool and the bar staff would come round with a daily cocktail. All very tasty!
Entertainment
There wasn’t much entertainment in the evening, I think this was down to us arriving in the first week of the hotel opening. But one evening there was a musician playing piano and singing, we were all up dancing and the atmosphere was great.
However, when there wasn’t any entertainment, the bar staff still wanted us to have the best time. So they were happy to make us cocktails and show off their dance moves!
Big Birthday Celebrations & Excursion
When my friends 40th Birthday came, the staff were so sweet! Everyone wished her Happy Birthday. There were flowers, a card and a bottle of prosecco in the room waiting for her.
Plus, at dinner, all the staff came to sing Happy Birthday to her. It was so sweet and thoughtful!
Excursion
As part of her birthday celebrations we went on a boat trip excursion, what a day!
We were picked up at the hotel after breakfast and taken down to Castries where we boarded a boat heading to Soufriere. We could see the Pitons getting closer, such an amazing sight. When we arrived in Soufriere the boat staff gave us a guided tour of the area. We headed to the mud baths at Sulphur Springs which was such a laugh. Slapping the mineral mud over us and dipping into the thermal pools.
Afterwards, we dried off and were given a choice of waterfall or volcano tour. We wanted to see the beautiful waterfalls of St Lucia and we were not disappointed. It was incredible, so beautiful, everyone gets the chance to have a photo underneath it. However, the water comes down hard so make sure your bikini top is well fixed, I wish I was warned!
After almost flashing to the group, we headed back to the boat for a spot of lunch, which consisted of pasta, chicken, fish, and cake! Following lunch we headed out to a reef. The boat provided snorkelling gear so we were able to see the most incredible fish, all shapes, colours and sizes, it was such an amazing experience.
Once the snorkelling had ended and we were back on the boat, the free bar opened. More rum punch? Yes, please! We danced and partied with the crew showing off their moves all the way back to Castries.
Would You Recommend Soco House?
We loved St lucia. The island is beautiful, the people are beautiful, the Rum Punch was fantastic, and our stay at Soco House was perfect!
I’d go back in a heartbeat!
